MANDATE

Thesp is dedicated to supporting independent artists and companies who have a proven ability to produce high-quality work yet who lack resources and funding. We are a platform for truly independent artists at various stages of their career to achieve greater exposure, guidance, professionalism and artistic rigor, founded on the principles of resource sharing and cooperation. We are also strongly committed to building the capacity of Canada’s arts administration sector by providing practical training, mentorship and work to emerging arts managers. We strive to connect the next generation of audiences with the critical mass of emerging theatre artists in the city of Toronto.

We seek out and present the best emerging talent, from wherever it may come and in whatever form it may take.

We facilitate the greater realization of an artistic vision by providing key logistical and financial support.

We create opportunities for established artists to share their knowledge and experience with the next generation of talent.

We support artists from a variety of disciplines and aesthetic approaches and do not shy away from work that is provocative, challenging, innovative or ambitious.

We provide a range of administrative and technical supports to companies and collectives who lack dedicated staff or infrastructure.

We create a space where audiences can see the very best of the new generation of artists, and where those artists can connect to their peers and their community in a meaningful and sustainable way.
